Nashik Kumbh Mela to Create Employment for Women's Self-Help Groups
The Nashik District Council (Zilla Parishad) is preparing to involve women's self-help groups (SHGs) in providing food services during Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela 2027. With over 30 million (3 crore) pilgrims expected to visit during the festival, the initiative aims to ensure hygienic, nutritious, and locally prepared meals while creating employment opportunities for rural women.
Traditional Food for Pilgrims
Visitors to Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 will be able to enjoy authentic local dishes prepared by women's self-help groups. The menu is expected to include Pithla Bhakri, Thecha Bhakri, Nachni (Ragi) Bhakri, Zunka, rice-based dishes, and Nashik's popular Misal made from local pulses.
Considering that pilgrims often walk long distances to reach bathing ghats during the monsoon season, the administration plans to focus on fresh, hygienic, and nutritious food to help visitors stay healthy.
Food Courts Planned Across the Kumbh Area
The Zilla Parishad plans to establish food courts operated by single women and self-help groups at various locations across the Kumbh Mela area. Pilgrims will have access to conveniently packed meals, small drinking water bottles, traditional thalis, and portable food options suitable for people on the move.
In addition to meals, beverages such as ginger tea, lemongrass tea, buttermilk, lemon juice, and herbal drinks are expected to be available to help visitors stay refreshed during the monsoon pilgrimage.
Chief Executive Officer Omkar Pawar said the initiative is expected to provide employment to more than 10,000 women from rural areas while offering pilgrims safe and quality food throughout the festival.
