Nashik Kumbh Gets a New Identity
Preparations for the 2027 Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela are moving ahead with a new branding plan. The Kumbh Mela Authority has decided to use the name Maha Simhastha for the upcoming festival.
According to Kumbh Mela Authority Commissioner Shekhar Singh, the new name is intended to highlight the scale and importance of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh. The authority also plans to formally brand the event and give official recognition to its emblem through trademark registration.
Key Highlights
- The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh is planned to be branded as Maha Simhastha.
- The event is being planned on a large scale across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
- Around ₹34,000 crore is being allocated through central and state government projects.
- The Kumbh emblem is planned to receive trademark protection.
- New infrastructure projects are being developed for roads, railways, connectivity and pilgrim movement.
₹34,000 Crore Development Programme
The central and Maharashtra governments are undertaking a large infrastructure programme ahead of the Kumbh. Around ₹34,000 crore is being spent on projects connected with the event and the development of Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
A dedicated Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has also been established to coordinate the planning and implementation of the festival-related projects.
New Infrastructure Projects Underway
Several major projects are being developed as part of the preparations. These include improvements to roads, highways and railway connectivity, along with a ring road and Parikrama route in Nashik.
In Trimbakeshwar, a Darshan Path Corridor is also being developed to improve movement for pilgrims visiting the temple.
These projects are being planned not only for the Kumbh period but also with the long-term development of the two pilgrimage centres in mind.
Focus on Nashik's Global Branding
The Maha Simhastha branding is also part of a wider effort to increase the visibility of Nashik as a major pilgrimage and cultural destination.
The Kumbh Mela Authority aims to showcase the festival to pilgrims, investors and visitors from across India and abroad. Officials expect the event and associated infrastructure projects to contribute to Nashik's future development beyond the 2027 Kumbh.
The proposed Maha Simhastha identity will therefore be used alongside the ongoing infrastructure and branding initiatives as preparations continue for the 2027 festival.
