Accommodation Planned for Over 30,000 Police Personnel for Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela
Nashik: Preparations for the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela are moving ahead, with authorities finalising accommodation arrangements for the large police force expected to be deployed during the event.
According to a recent report by Pudhari, accommodation capacity for 30,340 police personnel is being planned across government offices, police facilities, dharmashalas, trust buildings and educational institutions. The arrangements include accommodation for 3,228 officers and staff and 27,112 police personnel and others.
Large share of accommodation in lodges and dharmashalas
The largest portion of the planned accommodation will be provided through mangal karyalays, lodges and dharmashalas, with a combined capacity of approximately 21,614 people.
Other planned facilities include:
- Nashik Road Police Station barracks: 2,300
- Police Headquarters barracks: 1,928
- Police stations and Branch Road No. 5: 678
- Panjarapole Trust buildings: 500
- Maharashtra Police Academy: 1,142
- CID DTS building: 200
- Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University: 120
- Indrakund municipal building: 50
- University of Health Sciences: 50
Additional accommodation capacity is also expected through necessary construction and repair work.
Accommodation close to deployment areas
The large-scale accommodation plan is intended to support police deployment during the Kumbh Mela, when Nashik is expected to receive very large numbers of pilgrims.
Police personnel will be required for crowd management, traffic control, security at important religious sites, procession management and security arrangements during major bathing days.
Keeping accommodation close to their respective deployment areas is expected to help personnel reach their assigned locations more quickly and respond more efficiently to emergencies.
Coordination between departments will be important
The Kumbh Mela will require coordination between the police, revenue administration, Nashik Municipal Corporation, health department, traffic authorities and other agencies.
Along with maintaining law and order, authorities will need to manage traffic, crowd movement, public safety and emergency response throughout the festival period.
The accommodation arrangements for police personnel are therefore being treated as an important part of the overall security and operational planning for the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
