Multiple Agencies Involved in Road Development
The road development programme is being implemented through several agencies across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking 316.1 km of works, while the Public Works Department accounts for 732.8 km across its two phases. NH-PWD is responsible for 175.5 km, the Nashik Municipal Corporation for 128 km and Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council for 17.6 km.
Together with the Ring Road, these projects are intended to strengthen connectivity across the region ahead of the expected increase in traffic during the Kumbh.
65.6-Km Nashik Ring Road
The 65.6-km Nashik Ring Road is expected to play an important role in reducing traffic pressure on the city's central areas.
The wider road network is also being planned to improve connections between internal city roads, pilgrimage routes, the ghat areas, Nashik Road railway station and the airport.
Road Corridors to Include Utility Infrastructure
The projects are not limited to road construction. The planned corridors also incorporate infrastructure for rainwater drainage, water supply, sewage, electricity, optical fibre cables and gas pipelines.
According to the Kumbh Mela Authority, the road network is being developed with longer-term requirements in mind, so the infrastructure can continue to support residents, tourists, industries and logistics after the 2027 Kumbh.
Works Planned for Completion by March 2027
The related road infrastructure projects are planned for completion by March 2027, ahead of the main Kumbh period.
The expanded network is expected to support traffic management during the large-scale gathering while also improving Nashik and Trimbakeshwar's long-term road connectivity.
