Nashik Road Railway Station Set for Major Upgrade Before Kumbh Mela 2027
Preparations for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 have gained momentum, with extensive development work in progress at Nashik Road Railway Station. The upgrades are aimed at improving passenger convenience, managing large crowds, and strengthening security as millions of pilgrims are expected to visit Nashik and Trimbakeshwar during the festival.
Platform Extension to Improve Passenger Movement
Platform 1, currently 515 metres long, will be extended by an additional 45 metres towards the Mumbai side. Once completed, the platform will be able to accommodate 24-coach trains, making it easier for passengers to board and exit long-distance services without operational difficulties.
The extension work is expected to begin in January and is planned for completion within a month.
Platform Modernisation Underway
Railway authorities have also started major improvement works on Platform 4, including the installation of a full covered roof and the renovation of flooring with new tiles. In addition, damaged roofing sheets on Platforms 1, 2, and 3 are being replaced, while drainage systems are being upgraded to improve rainwater flow during the monsoon.
These projects are part of the station's broader modernisation plan ahead of the pilgrimage.
Holding Area Planned for Pilgrims
During Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, the railway goods warehouse area will be temporarily converted into a holding area where pilgrims can wait safely before boarding trains. To facilitate this arrangement, goods operations at the freight yard will remain temporarily suspended during the festival.
Advanced CCTV Network for Safety
The Nashik Municipal Corporation is also expanding the city's surveillance infrastructure. Approximately 1,500 advanced CCTV cameras are expected to become operational within the next two months, while the long-term plan includes installing 3,300 cameras across the city.
The integrated monitoring system will support real-time crowd management, traffic control, and public safety. Authorities also plan to test their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) using the new surveillance network before the Kumbh Mela begins.
